Bengaluru, 22 December 2023: For almost two years, Indian women wrestlers have been protesting on the streets with allegations of sexual harassment by the then President of the Wrestling Federation, BJP MP, Union Minister Brij Bhushan. Male wrestlers are also standing in their support. Sportspersons who have brought medals to the country are protesting by sleeping on the road day and night. Still, the Modi government is committing atrocities on them without taking any action. So do Modi’s slogans like Beti Bachao, and Nari Shakti make sense? Wrestlers’ tears have received no response from Modi other than silence. What or whose threat is behind such gross negligence? Abdul Majeed, State President of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) asked through his press release.
It is unimaginable that wrestlers who have won medals for their country at the international level will falsely accuse anyone. The country’s Prime Minister did not even have time to listen to the serious allegations of the athletes who brought honor to the country. It is not negligence, it is the truth that Modi does not dare to take action on the Brij Bhushan issue, Majeed said in his statement.
When Brij Bhushan stepped aside from the position of President, at least a suitable person will come to that position, even though it is not possible to punish Brij Bhushan as long as there is a Modi government, at least there was an expectation of the sportsmen and the people of the country that such exploitation can be curbed from now on. But Brij Bhushan’s close friend Sanjay Singh has been elected to that position. This has completely dented the confidence of the athletes of the country. Majeed has expressed concern in his statement over the development of wrestlers announcing their retirement from the sport and returning Padma Shri awards taking place after this.
The BJP government has completely lost its sensibility. No matter what they do, they are floating in the delusion that they can win the elections using their politics of religious hatred. Majeed said in his statement that people would answer his arrogance appropriately
