Death of Confident Group Owner C. J. Roy Exposes the Brutal Face of State Terror

The sudden and shocking death of Mr. C. J. Roy, owner of the Confident Group, is a deeply disturbing incident and a grim example of fascist state terror, said Mujahid Pasha, State General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). Mr. C. J. Roy was a well-known entrepreneur who had established several real estate ventures across various states in India and abroad. Under the BJP-led central government, the Income Tax Department has increasingly become a tool to intimidate and suppress citizens and civil rights organisations. The intrusive raid carried out by the department and the intense mental trauma caused by it directly led to this tragic death.

Central agencies such as the ED and IT Department are functioning in blatant violation of constitutional limits, trampling upon the fundamental rights of citizens. The Income Tax raid on Mr. Roy and the severe psychological pressure it created pushed him towards this unfortunate end. Even after Mr. C. J. Roy allegedly shot himself and lay dead at the premises, the continuation of the raid reflects the extreme inhumanity and insensitivity of the investigating agencies. This incident starkly highlights the urgent need for civil society to rise strongly against the ongoing witch-hunt and repression carried out by central investigative agencies against citizens’ rights. SDPI demands a high-level, independent investigation into the death of Mr. C. J. Roy and calls for strict legal action against all those responsible. Expressing deep condolences over the untimely demise of Mr. C. J. Roy, Mujahid Pasha stated that SDPI stands in complete solidarity with the grieving family members, relatives, and colleagues during this moment of profound sorrow.
